You may be one of the millions of obese Americans that have considered a form of bariatric surgery as a weight loss solution. Each year, around 200,000 people in the U.S. alone undergo a gastric procedure.
Unity Hospital in Fridley, Minnesota will be performing the Lap-Band procedure live online at 4:00 PM EDT on Thursday, Oct. 30. If you are at all curious about how the procedure is performed be sure to turn in. The surgeons will also be fielding questions from the viewers.
According to the Lap-band website,
“The procedure is performed laparoscopically without any stapling or permanent alteration of the stomach or digestive system. The gastric band is wrapped around the patient’s stomach and inflated with saline. When inflated, the band creates a small gastric pouch and stoma. Unlike gastric bypass surgery, the LAP-BAND System does not affect nutrient absorption.”
The Lap-Band brand manufactured by Allergan is an adjustable gastric banding system. The surgery is preformed laproscopicly with only six small incisions made in the patient. See how it works and compare the risks vs. the benefits.
